Discussion 12/19/2023 6:30 PM

Cloud cover will increase through tonight which should help to keep temperatures warmer overnight, with high 30s. Southerly winds will continue.

Continuing moisture and warm air advection will allow for warmer temperatures tomorrow and for precipitation to develop as early as Thursday afternoon. While a rumble of thunder may occur, primarily stratiform rainfall is forecast.

Several upper level short waves will bring rounds of lift and rainfall to the region Friday through Christmas Day. As the main upper trough shifts into the plains and towards the region Sunday afternoon into Monday, some models show some limited instability which may be enough to produce a few storms. Confidence is currently limited in this though, but will keep monitoring over the next several model runs. For the most part, rainfall from Thursday into the middle of next week will be light with 6 day rainfall totals in the 0.50 to 1.50 rainfall range.
