An upper level trough will move into and across the plains Thursday into Thursday night. Light rain will start to spread into southeastern Kansas and western Missouri from the west Thursday evening and will spread east Thursday night into Friday. Overall the better rain chances will generally be along and north of I-44. Highs will be in the middle to upper 50s on Friday as the warmer air mass remains over the region.
Upper level ridging will build right back over the region on Saturday behind the short wave trough along with a warmer air mass. As a result highs will warm into the lower to middle 60s on Saturday.
An upper level low currently off the west coast will dig south across the west coast Thursday into Friday. The low will open up to a trough and move east this weekend into and across the Plains this weekend. A dry air mass will move over the area on Saturday, but moisture will spread right back into the area ahead of the trough Saturday night into Sunday night. Rain showers will develop and move east across The region Saturday evening into Christmas Day. Instability will be limited but there may be just enough for some isolated embedded thunderstorms but chances for this is overall low. Gusty southerly winds will occur on Sunday as gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be possible at times ahead of the system
